A pretty mediocre Patterson release, this doesn’t necessarily mean its bad, just the bar has been set pretty high and I’ve been a huge fan of some of his earlier collaborations (Candice Fox anyone?).
Amy Cornwall is an army intelligence office who arrives home to discover her husband and daughter Want to add a caption to this image? Click the Settings icon. missing. Amy is then contacted by kidnappers who need her to release and deliver a man in exchange for getting her family back. Headstrong and troubled by earlier events in Afghanistan Amy goes AWOL from the army and ventures cross country to save her family. On the way she encounters numerous sub-plots, including an Army officer sent to find her and bring her back to the army, as Amy starts to pull the pieces of the puzzle together.
This book is very fast paced, with the entire narrative taking place over 48 hours, which may be to the detriment of the overall reader experience but it does well to build up to a satisfactory conclusion.
Like I said, this isn’t a bad book, we’ve just been accustomed to much better from Patterson novels previously.
2/5 – I am confident that this would make a good audiobook.
