The story begins with alternating point of views of between Anne Andrews, former tv presenter and now correspondent, and DCI Jack Harper as they return to their hometown of Blackdown and the secrets of their past.

Now I LOVED Alice Feeneys debut novel (Sometimes I Lie) so I was very excited to read this one and I have to say (spoiler!) I really just didn’t get into this one. I found myself picking it up and putting it down a lot and just really didn’t like any of the characters and was frustrated reading their self analysis, manipulations lies and downright and self-loathing. I hoped the second half of the book would pick up the pace, and it did a little but I really didn’t care for the ending, largely because it was too over the top and unbelievable but in general I think I just didn’t care about the characters or what happened to them.

Overall for me it’s just a ⭐️⭐️ star read.

I wouldn’t read a sequel with the same characters but would definitely pick up another Alice Feeney novel!
