Wow what an intense atmospheric creepy read!

Firstly I must admit I am ashamed of my outright sexist assumption that Vicar Jack was male and felt very put back in my place when we discover Jack is in fact female, bravo Ms Tudor for challenging stereotypes from chapter one 🙌

I have so much to say about this book but I wouldn’t want to give away any inclination as to the path the book takes so instead I will say the first few chapters are a bit of a slow burn (pun intended 😂) but this does well in setting up the history and setting of the book which is so crucial to the plot so stick with it!

The narrative is told mainly from Jack and Flo’s point of view and I enjoyed both characters equally, the interspersed chapters from other POVs including the voices of the missing girls adds another layer to the plot and moved the story along well.

For me the book crosses into more of a “horror” book then a classic psychological thriller, it definitely has a Stephen King feel to it. Full of secrets and lies this is an intense and terrifying read and is definitely not for the faint hearted! Overall I really enjoyed the book, a definite page turner and I thought the ending was fantastic.

Trigger Warnings: Extreme violence, bullying, child abuse, murder, supernatural / paranormal activity, exorcism, suicide, and brief hints at paedophilia
