Oh Norman you are simply marvellous! I have to thank Penguin House for gifting me a copy of this utterly wonderful, light hearted, charming tale of Norman Foreman and his Mum Sadie. An absolute ripper of a debut that will likely be compared to "Wonder" and "Fish in a Tree" tand is ready to trail-blaze its way to the top of every best seller list across the Globe.
Ms Henderson takes the reader on a beautiful journey (quite literally) from Penzance to Edinburgh as our young protagonist, twelve year old Norman, pilgrimages to The Fringe Festival to celebrate the loss of his (rolls bloody royce) best and only friend (Jax) The hilarious but tender road trip see's Sadie having to relive the worst part of her life to help Norman complete his 5-year plan by meeting a host of potential dads who are hilarious and add so much fun and vivality to the story.
I was captivated by Sadie and Normans stories and laughed and cried along with them both, my heart was breaking for this poor young boy who's "spent the better part of his life covered in a solid scale of psoriasis that hurts like hell, looks like shit [but] still keeps smiling' and could completely empathise with Sadie and all her emotional maternal fears for Norman. Leonard is wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed his charm and wit, his story was like a warm hug around the central characters and I just wanted to keep reading more and more about his life.
A smashing 5 star read that will war your heart and make you sob - so tissues at the ready!
